Icynene Spray Foam Insulation in Los Angeles: What to Know First
Icynene spray foam insulation in Los Angeles is best handled by an independent contractor who actually understands how the material behaves after it cures. We’re Woolsey Attic Insulation, and we provide Icynene spray foam inspection, repair, and full installation work across the LA basin. Most jobs are quoted within 24 hours and completed within a day or two once scheduled, and you’ll always see the written price before we touch anything. That’s how we do every job.
As an independent Icynene service provider, we’re not owned by the manufacturer and we don’t push Icynene when the home calls for something else. But when a Los Angeles homeowner has Icynene sprayed in their attic, rim joists, or roof deck and something isn’t working right, we know exactly what to look for.
If your Icynene foam isn’t performing, call (325) 240-5411. A live person answers. We’ll talk through what you’re seeing and tell you straight whether it needs a closer look.
How Icynene Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Icynene makes good foam. But every spray foam product has failure points, and in Los Angeles, the heat and the way homes are built here create specific patterns we see over and over again:
- Icynene Classic Plus (open-cell) shrinkage in LA attics. Open-cell foam can pull away from trusses and decking over time as it cures fully, and in Los Angeles, the hot-dry cycles in attics accelerate this. The symptom is usually a gap between the foam and the framing that lets conditioned air escape. We fix it by re-foaming the separation gaps, not by tearing out everything. Most Classic Plus shrinkage issues are localized and don’t require a full re-spray.
- Icynene ProSeal (closed-cell) brittle spots from heat exposure. Closed-cell foam is tougher, but when it’s sprayed too thin in high-heat zones or exposed to direct sun through roof decking gaps, the outer layer can degrade and turn chalky. We see this most often in Los Angeles attics where the roof deck gets hammered by direct sun. The fix is removing the degraded surface layer and re-spraying to proper depth, usually 2 to 3 inches for ProSeal to reach its rated R-value.
- Rim joist foam pulling away from sheathing. Rim joist bands are a prime spot for air leakage, and Icynene open-cell sprayed there can shrink back from the OSB or plywood sheathing, especially if the wood was dusty when the foam was applied. The telltale sign is condensation or a musty smell along the band joist in summer. We clean the surface, re-foam the gaps, and verify the bond before we call it done.
- Garage ceiling foam peeling from drywall or plaster. In older Los Angeles garages, the ceiling surface may have years of dust, oil film, or old paint that prevents proper adhesion. Icynene foam will separate from that surface within a year or two if the prep was poor. We identify the failed bond by tapping the surface and listening for hollow spots, then strip and re-spray the affected areas.
- Thin passes from the original installer. Icynene foam only reaches its rated performance when applied in proper lift thicknesses. We regularly find jobs where the original contractor cut corners and sprayed too thin, leaving R-values well below spec. We measure with a depth gauge, document what’s actually there, and re-spray to bring the assembly up to what the homeowner paid for.
Our Icynene Spray Foam Insulation Process
Here’s how a typical Icynene job runs with us, from your first call to the final check:
- 1
You call and talk to a person. No voicemail maze. You describe what’s happening with your Icynene foam, and we ask the right questions: when it was sprayed, what product was used, what the attic feels like right now.
- 2
We schedule a written-price assessment. We come out, go into the attic or rim joist area, and inspect the foam directly. We take depth measurements, check for separation, and document what we find. You get a written price before any work starts. Always.
- 3
We explain what’s actually needed. If your Icynene foam just needs a localized repair, we tell you that. We don’t sell a full re-spray when 90% of the foam is fine. Glenn Hartley has walked away from jobs where the “problem” turned out to be something else entirely, because an honest assessment matters more than a bigger invoice.
- 4
We do the work with the right material. We use Icynene products where that’s the right call, and we’re also experienced with seven other leading foam and insulation brands, including Owens Corning, Demilec, and Rockwool. That means the material recommendation fits the home, not whatever’s already on the truck. We also work with Reflectix for radiant barrier applications where that’s the better solution.
- 5
We test before we leave. We check the bond, verify depth, and make sure the foam is curing correctly. We don’t leave until the work is right.
- 6
You get a written guarantee. Every job includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If something’s not right within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. In writing.
What Icynene Spray Foam Insulation Costs in Los Angeles
Spray foam insulation pricing in Los Angeles depends on the product, the area covered, and how much prep and repair work is involved. Here’s what we typically see:
- Open-cell Icynene (Classic Plus) attic roof deck: $1.40 to $2.30 per board foot installed, which for a typical 1,500-square-foot attic with a 4-inch lift runs $6,500 to $9,500.
- Closed-cell Icynene (ProSeal) rim joist band: $2.00 to $3.20 per board foot, with most Los Angeles homes landing between $1,800 and $3,600 for a full perimeter band.
- Garage ceiling spray foam: $3,900 to $6,800 for a two-car garage, depending on thickness and the condition of the existing drywall surface.
- Localized repair work: $350 to $1,500 for most separation, thin-pass, or bond-failure fixes. We won’t know for sure until we inspect.
What moves the price: the condition of the existing surface, access to the space, the thickness required to hit the R-value you want, and whether any old foam has to be removed first. You’ll always get the exact written number before work starts. Call (325) 240-5411 for a free estimate.
Why Los Angeles Homeowners Call Woolsey Attic Insulation for Icynene Work
Good insulation doesn’t shout; it just quietly does its job, season after season. The problem is that a lot of Los Angeles homeowners have been through the opposite: a contractor who changed the price at the door, showed up four hours late, or sprayed foam that started failing before the year was out. That story is common enough out here that people have learned to expect it. We do things differently.
Every Woolsey job is covered by The Kingswell Guarantee: a written price before any work begins, a committed arrival window, a clean job site, a written guarantee on the work, and a free return visit if something fails within 365 days. We’ve been doing this since 2002 as part of the Kingswell family of independently owned and operated insulation companies. Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed, so you know who’s coming through your door. And when you call us at 2 a.m. or 2 p.m., a live person picks up. No automated system.
We also carry eight leading insulation brands, including Icynene, Owens Corning, Johns Manville, Knauf, Rockwool, CertainTeed, Demilec, and GreenFiber, plus Reflectix for radiant barrier work. When we recommend a material for your Los Angeles home, it’s because it fits the house and the climate, not because it’s what we have in the truck.
FAQs
No. We’re an independent Icynene service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized dealer. That means we can honestly assess whether your Icynene foam is the right product for the problem you’re trying to solve, and we can recommend a different material if it isn’t. We don’t have a brand quota to meet.
Yes. We measure the existing foam depth, calculate the actual R-value you have in place, and then re-spray to bring it up to the level you originally paid for or need for your Los Angeles home. We’ll show you the depth readings before and after so you can see exactly what was done.
We work with eight leading insulation brands, not just Icynene. If your home has Demilec, Owens Corning, or another spray foam product, we can inspect and repair that too. The brand matters less than getting the right material and the right installation for the specific space.
Most inspections are scheduled within 48 hours, and most repairs are completed within one to two days of the written estimate being approved. If you’re dealing with an active problem like water intrusion or foam separation that’s affecting your cooling bills in the middle of a Los Angeles summer, call (325) 240-5411 and we’ll get you on the schedule as fast as we can. A live person answers, day or night.
Almost always cheaper to repair the localized failure, and that’s what we’ll recommend if the rest of the foam is sound. Most Icynene issues we see in Los Angeles homes are isolated: a section of separation here, a thin pass there. Tearing out good foam is wasteful and expensive. Call (325) 240-5411, and we’ll tell you straight what actually needs to be done. Estimates are free.
